Tennis elbow, medically known as lateral epicondylitis, is a condition that causes pain on the outer side of the elbow. It occurs due to overuse of the forearm muscles and tendons.

Despite its name, tennis elbow does not only affect athletes. Many people who perform repetitive hand or wrist movements can develop this condition.

The problem usually involves irritation of the extensor tendons that attach to the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.

Common Symptoms

Typical symptoms include:

  • Pain on the outer side of the elbow
  • Weak grip strength
  • Pain during wrist extension
  • Discomfort when lifting objects

Risk Factors

Several activities increase the risk of tennis elbow, such as:

  • Repetitive wrist movements
  • Prolonged computer work
  • Improper sports techniques
  • Overuse of forearm muscles

Early Management

Physiotherapy treatment usually includes load management, strengthening exercises, and gradual return to activity.

Early intervention helps reduce pain and prevent chronic elbow problems.
